At our last conference, students participated in our Mars Hydrology Initiative; they learned about Martian geology and planned a mock water mining mission. Alex and Harmony won telescopes for successful missions; cell phone microscopes went home with everyone else!
Our upcoming Student Session: Water Worlds, will be led by Solar Physicists from HAO/UCAR Dr. Lisa Upton and Joan Burkepile. They will present the issues and requirements for a mission to the outer solar system. Students will actively engage to learn about their mission, numerous potential location sites from the moons of Jupiter and Saturn to Pluto and Charon.
Students will determine which moons from selected planets have the best potential to mine for resources, or harbor the ability for life based number of factors given. There will be two categories students can select at sign up (Visual or Scientific). Students may choose to visually represent their learning (Artistic) and imagination, or to write and describe their mission plan (Scientific).
Also available to check out will be sample simulates from University of Central Florida's Exolith Lab!
